For the past three years, we’ve had access to more rare disease drugs than any other specialty pharmacy in limited distribution networks of one to four specialty pharmacies overall.* We also offer high-touch, specialized condition-specific Centers of Excellence to support patients.

Patient spotlight: Eric's journey

Eric’s story

[Voice over]

Living with pulmonary arterial hypertension. You know, when you're diagnosed with this disease, it's it's something you. We had never heard of. You know, it's such a rare disease. Only 500,000 people a year are diagnosed with this disease.

Eric was given two to four months to live after his diagnosis

I left the hospital, I was put on a pump, and I was administered drugs into my heart 24 over seven. And I never thought I was going to get off of that pump. I'm lucky, you know, I have a really good team around me. I've got a great cardiologist, I've got a great psychologist. Part of my care team is CVS Specialty.

CVS sent an in-home nurse to me once a week. She was a soothing voice. She was an educational voice. And she really, you know, more than me. Helped my wife and kids. Because, as you can imagine, it was just. It was a traumatic time and a crazy time.

I learned very early on that walking helped me mitigate the side effects of the medications that I was on, and it also helped with positive mental health. And so, I started to walk and I started walking, and I walked a mile to three. Eventually, I was walking longer and longer distances. After a year, my heart made almost a complete recovery, and I was taken off the pump.

And I'm on more oral medications, which I'm on today and I'll be on for the rest of my life. And CVS provides me those medications.

Now, Eric walks thousands of miles annually to raise awareness for Pulmonary Hypertension and fundraise.

[Voice over]

It's been a while, five years. It's been a while journey and CVS has played a big part in that. So, thank you.

Specialized support for complex conditions

When diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension, Eric was given two to four months to live. Today, he’s still going strong with our help.

“We’re new to CVS Specialty. I’m very impressed with the ease of intake, transition, online ordering and supply delivery. I’m also really happy with the overall communication. It means everything when my plate is so full between work and taking care of a child with a rare disease.”
